What is ISO9001 Quality Management Standard

ISO9001 Quality Management Standard is a process management standard. The ISO 9001 standard is based on a process approach. It is about establishing effective and efficient processes that are consistently followed and improved upon. In simple words, a business needs to demonstrate effective monitoring systems over its established processes and have scheduled control measures in place to monitor and improve these process over time. It is all about how you manage and operate your business.

This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. These principles are explained in more detail in ISO’s quality management principles

Using ISO 9001 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good-quality products and services, which in turn brings many business benefits.

Benefits of ISO9001 Standard

A business can greatly benefit from having ISO 9001 certification by securing relationships with both the public and private sectors. A business's accreditation to ISO 9001 is a significant indicator that it is well-run and credible when competing for public sector contracts, negating the need for substantial due diligence. Similar to this, several private sector businesses have mandated that their suppliers hold an ISO 9001 certification. It conveys that quality is important and trusted in all facets of the company.

In order to successfully run a business, accurate analysis and reporting are essential. The ISO 9001 standard enforces business to process map their operations and ensure this is done correctly.

ISO 9001 certification requires businesses to have system in place to monitor and test product qualities. The standard also equips business with tools to be better prepared to deal with product or service related issues.

Monitoring customer satisfaction and addressing any issues that are brought up is one of the most crucial components of the ISO 9001 standard. ISO 9001 certified businesses have control measures in place to continually monitor this and that results in higher customer satisfaction.

During the ISO9001 process, business are required to document and map their internal processes. That results in better process and change management which consequently reduces waste and improves overall efficiency. That process streamlines the repetitive processes and make businesses more agile.

CI is one of the best and most important outcome of getting certified. A ISO 9001 certified companies are on the right track to implement CI techniques to ensure their processes are not only recorded but also improved year after year. That result in better change adaption and make the business more sustainable in cases of economic crisis (such as what we experienced after COVID-19).

Implementing principles of a common standard ensures that everyone in your business follow the same processes when dealing with internal or external matters. That benefits all stakeholders including the customers. Uniformity is also very important from branding point of view. Repeat customers are created from good experiences and good experiences come from proper solid processes. So unified processes results in repeat customers. Think of big brands that you love and why you love them. The answer is consistency.

Having proper processes in place results in smoother and leaner operations. Combine that with a few and correct digital automations and you will have higher efficiency, less labour intensive processes, less energy consumption and more time in your hand to spend on your business development. That all starts with a good system in place and ISO9001 standard makes sure that the system you have is up to date and improved continuously.

Having a standard in place requires defined processes. A business with defined processes have happier staff as they know what to do when facing a challenge. That results in less mistakes, less conflicts and more systematic collaborations. Happy staff results in happy customers and happy customer equals more (consistent) profit. Isn't that why we do what we do.
